Truth & Reconciliation Day
September 30th, 2021 marks the first time Canadians will commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This is a day on which all Canadians are asked to pause, remember, and honour the survivors of Canada’s residential school system, as well as those children whose lives were taken by the people and conditions in these schools.
You’re encouraged to partake in this day of reflection and learning. Here are some ways you can do that:
- Wear an orange shirt on the 30th to show your support
- Attend the event hosted by Kihew Waciston
- Educate yourself and your loved ones: Spirit Bear’s Guide to the TRC’s Calls to Action (youth-friendly) and the University of Alberta’s free Indigenous Canada course are a great place to start
